Saltcellar

Northern Italy, end of 17th, beginning of 18th century. Form: faience (?), shaped in a relief mould.
Underglaze painting, an oval dish on a broad and tall wavy base, a four-leaved rim with bands and stylised plant ornaments (edelweiss and carnations). The saltcellar has a typical 17th and 18th century shape, with a shallow hollow for the salt. The painting is executed in typical faience colours (orange, yellow, green, brown, blue) on a white base.
