Earring

Some of the most important archaeological finds from the early mediaeval burial ground in Predloka are those that bear witness to the old Slavic settlement in this area. They originate from different geographical areas and belong to different Slavic cultures, e.g. the Köttlach culture. The bronze grape-like earring, characteristic of the Bijelo Brdo culture of the 9th - 11th century A.D., which had spread across a broad area from northeast Slovenia to including Hungary and continental Croatia, presents valuable evidence of Slavic settlement in northwest Istria and perhaps indicates one of the areas from where Slavic settlers had settled in the hinterland of Istrian coastal towns, which are mentioned in the document about the Assembly of Rižana.
