Doge Leonardo Nicolò Donato - Donà (1620)

In 1580 he became the Mayor of Koper and in 1618 a Venetian doge. He was the initiator for the establishment of a *Court of Appeal over the Rulings of Istrian Chancellors. At a time of great want and hunger, he helped his citizens, providing water supply and saving the town from its debts at Jewish loan banks.  A commission from the townspeople of Koper to the successors of the workshop of Giulio del Moro (1555-1618) was placed right after his untimely demise. This statue was placed above the entrance to the hall of the Great Council.
