Halberd

The halberd was given to the Koper Regional Museum for safekeeping by the Municipality of Koper on 16th March 1911. It is mounted on a wooden shaft, covered in leather and studded with nails. The mounted part is made of metal, namely the axe, pick and spike. The length of the entire item is 206cm.

In the 15th and 16th centuries halberds were one of the most versatile weapons on shafts. They could be used for cutting, stabbing or throwing opponents off a horse to the ground. The especially beautiful halberds were made for solemn and court use.
