The Koper doctor Santòrio Santòrio (1561–1636) was a pioneer of physical measurements in medicine. He invented several medical instruments and made a scale for measuring body temperature. He is famous for his scales, which he used to study the metabolism in connection with body weight and which were drawn in various editions of his book Static Medicine.
