Kanta bas

A typical Istrian folk instrument, the kanta bas, is a stringed musical instrument and has the role of a bass instrument. It is made from a barrel for salting fish, with a string tied to the handle of a broom that protrudes from the barrel. It is played by plucking the stretched string. This musical instrument can accompany an accordion or appear in an ensemble of the so-called cat music, where the melody is played by a comb with paper and a nonola (a reed pipe), which are accompanied by objects such as two lids, a belt, a washboard etc., appearing in the role of folk musical instruments.
