The exhibition The Day Before, Between War and Peace, presents the Independence Events of the South Primorska Region in the First Days of the War, negotiations, withdrawal and departure of Yugoslav Army units from Slovenia.
In the first part of the exhibition, the author Ivan Simčič presents the legal acts that were adopted to start the process of independence. In the following, he chronologically shows through words and photographs the exit of JA units from Ilirska Bistrica in the direction of the border crossings Fernetiči, Lipica, Krvavi potok and Škofije and the spontaneous resistance of the population against aggression.
The work of members of the then militia (police), which took care of order and non-violent obstruction of JA units, is highlighted. The armed resistance was carried out by the territorial defense together with the militia, which was followed by negotiations and finally the withdrawal of JA units from the territory of Slovenia.
The process of independence in southern Primorska is shown with pictorial and written material, as well as exhibits (weapons, uniforms and other objects).
